Together we can ensure that justice is not undermined anywhere in the country.

For Indian nationals to support us

Dream of self sustenance: At present, SLIC relies on support from human rights charities around the world. However, our dream is to be able to generate the funds we need to run SLIC from the people of the country: For human rights in India, funded by Indians.

We are a country of 1 Billion+ people along with a huge diaspora population living abroad. This is not an impossible dream. So, if you believe in our work and wish to play your part in making justice accessible to the marginalized people in India, start with donating to us today.

A new kind of Corporate Social Responsibility

(Some) corporate organizations (In India and around the world) are breaking away from the ruthless practices that govern ‘how business is conducted’ and committing themselves towards taking a more human and environment rights based approach in their work. For such organizations, CSR is not just an image building tool or compliance activity, but they truly believe in the power of giving back and the value it creates (for the world and the business itself.) SLIC is eager to collaborate with such organizations (In India and around around the world) and partner with them in their CSR efforts. Organisations can support particular initiatives that are line with their CSR policies or choose to work with certain state units/special programs. We also created provisions for organizations to lend long term support to our work and become allies in our quest towards creating a more just society.

For world citizens to support us

Socio-Legal Information Centre relies on the support of concerned citizens from across the world including persons of Indian origin permanently residing outside India and foreign nationals. Our FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulations Act Non Profit: EIN of 501c3) License allows us to receive donations from citizens across the world. Donors may choose to support particular initiatives or choose to fund certain state units/special programs. We also created provisions for you to lend long term support to our work and become our partners in the quest towards creating a more just society.

Donate to Core

Today, SLIC operates out of 26 states, functioning out of some well equipped offices, as in Delhi and Mumbai, and smaller units in other states where lawyers work out of makeshift offices with sometimes just a table and chair. In terms of pay scales, even the most qualified and highest paid lawyer at SLIC draws a salary of less than $1000 a month, after working day and night every day of the week. Lawyers in smaller units struggle to make ends meet, yet continue working relentlessly due to the job satisfaction. We wish to provide the lawyers who work with us across the country with the necessary infrastructure and reasonable salaries. We want to set up more centres across the country and expand our scope of work. We need your support.

Fund an Initiative

Many of our donors support particular initiatives that move them or are in line with their organisation’s policies. If there is any initiative that you feel strongly for (Child rights, prisoner’s rights, women’s reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, Campaign against acid attack, Dalit rights, Tribal rights etc.) and you wish to support that in particular, select the initiative below and we will use your funds towards further development of our work towards the cause.

Trainings on Law

Litigation would be unsuccessful unless it is simultaneously accompanied by legal trainings on a large scale where trainers travel out to remote areas and carry out the trainings amongst those who need it most. These trainings are often done by lawyers, academics, retired and acting judges for law students, citizens, and social activists. SLIC facilitates such trainings in various states across India and also at the national level. Individuals/organizations may support our training programs to help us reach out to more states and regions.

Support a Lawyer

SLIC also has a “support a lawyer” scheme where individuals/corporations can sponsor a lawyer to do pro-bono public interest work. This would require monthly payments from INR 25,000 – 50,000 for specific areas of work and depending on the seniority of the lawyers concerned.

Help develop our infrastructure

Individuals/organizations can support us by donating office furniture, computers etc. for our state unit offices or pledge to our long term goal of establishing our headquarters in a space owned by the organization. Currently, all SLIC offices across the country, including our head office in Delhi, operate out of leased premises.
