Jammu and Kashmir
The office of SLIC Jammu & Kashmir Unit is located in Srinagar and also holds a sub-unit in the Pulwama district. The unit was established in the year 2006 to respond to grave human rights violations being committed on Kashmiris in the form of illegal detentions, custodial disappearances, torture, rape, murder, fake encounters and other similar acts of State repression. The J&K Team is particularly passionate to defend the cases of conflict-related human rights abuses given the socio-political situation in Kashmir.
SLIC J&K has been extremely active as over 400 cases have been filed on behalf of victims in the courts and in majority of cases the SLIC have received favorable orders from time to time.
The office has been instrumental in filing various PILs, writ petitions on diverse subjects, including on implementation of Juvenile Justice Act, Jammu & Kashmir Disability Act, bio - medical waste, healthcare, torture, custodial killings, fake encounters and establishing rehabilitation centers for drug addicts. Since 2006, SLIC Jammu and kashmir has been providing Pro-bono public services to the detainees detained under draconian Public Safety Act.

SLIC Impact
SLIC has been at the forefront in the state of J&K in providing free legal aid. Since from the very inception, the SLIC J & K chapter has rendered free legal aid and assistance to the victims of state violence. Multiple cases of torture, custodial killings, enforced disappearance have been filed on behalf of the victim families in the and in majority of the cases the courts have ordered the enquires, compensation and government job to the family members. Besides this, SLIC has been instrumental in filing the cases on socio-economic rights including education and education rights. Through various court orders, today we could see a robust Juvenile Justice system in the state as SLIC had filed PIL on Juvenile Rights in the state. The best Health care facilities to the infants in the Government run hospitals is being provided on the directions of court since PIL on health rights was filed by the team of SLIC. The SLIC team is also fighting the cases of detainees under the Public safety Act.
